The study is based on the need of a new approach to support children in learning the traditional process of making Batik Tulis in Indonesia. The traditional technique is an ancient method, which has been practiced since prehistoric times. As a cultural heritage, batik must be preserved and continue to be taught from generation to generation, even though the process is intricate.
Nowadays the traditional technique has been improved but still left some constraints during the process and consumes a lot of time. This phenomenon causes the young people and young children become not really attracted to learn the technique, even though they are keen to wear batik clothes. Some batik museums in Indonesia provide huge collections and conduct regular workshop of some parts of process in producing batik. However, the limited time to teach and transfer the skills of making batik is still problematic.

Fieldworks in Museum Batik Pekalongan in Indonesia are taken as part of the study. With supports from the museum staffs and some batik experts, BatiKids is developed.

BatiKids is a game-based learning designed to support children in learning eight main steps of batik processing. Besides providing videos of real process of batik production, the game also offers children the opportunity to carry out each step of the traditional technique in a playful approach. The game will be enjoyable, inviting for beginners, offering some batik ornaments and great variations of color without necessarily being a master in the complicated blending of successive layers of color. And at the same time the game avoids the complex problems occurring during the long process and tight sequences in producing batik traditionally.

In the end of this study, BatiKids will be installed in the Museum Batik Pekalongan in Indonesia, as one of the fieldworks.
